How can I prevent dryness and breakage?

Get on a good hair care regimen. Lavish™ Conditioning Shampoo and Moisture Plus™ After-Shampoo Conditioner boost your hair's moisture content every time you use them. For extra help, ask your Motions stylist about a Motions CPR Protein Reconstructor, or use Motions At Home D.P.T.™ Deep Penetrating Treatment once a week after shampooing. Then, replenish moisture and condition your hair daily by using Moisture Enhancing Hairdressing.

To add the TLC:
  • Use heat-styling tools on as low a heat setting as you can to accomplish your goal
  • Let your hair air dry partially before blow drying
  • Give hair a break from heat styling with roller setting or two-strand twists
  • If you wear your hair natural, use Weightless Clear Hairdressing to keep it soft
  • If you relax your hair, stick with your stylist's recommended re-touch schedule
  • Keep up with regular trims
  • Use humidifiers during the dry winter season

How can I make my hair grow faster?

Sorry, but nothing will make hair grow faster than about half an inch (1.25 centimeters) a month. Additionally, it's a myth that trimming hair makes it grow. Trimming does make your hair look better and eases manageability because a strong shape is simpler to style.

To maximize your hair's health so it keeps growing at a normal rate:
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Ask your physician about medications that slow the hair's growth
  • Massage your scalp regularly
Of course, you can always add instant length with a weave, braids or a wig. To make certain that braids aren't so tight they pull the scalp, get them from a professional stylist.

What's the best way to transition my hair?

Going back to natural? If you're willing to get a short cut, you'll cut a lot of time off the transition period. Keep in mind, as your natural hair grows out, there will be stress on the line of demarcation, which is the point where the natural curl that's growing out meets the relaxed hair.

To minimize the stress:
  • Keep hair well-moisturized with Hair and Scalp Daily Moisturizing Hairdressing.
  • Don't use heat to straighten the natural hair. Ask your hairdresser to give you a style that makes the two textures look more similar, like braids, two-strand twists or a straw set.
  • Treat your hair gently, don't pull and tug on it or rub too vigorously with a towel when you dry it. Gently blot-dry your hair, use Nourish™ Leave-In Conditioner and comb very gently, using a wide-toothed comb and working from the ends up in small increments.

How long should I wait between salon relaxing services?

When you have about an inch or regrowth or every 6 to 8 weeks, it's time for a re-touch. You can go a little longer in winter. The natural growth rate of hair slows a bit and you perspire less, so the roots are less likely to revert after styling.

How often should I shampoo and condition at home?

Each person's oil production varies, and also depends on how physically active you are, but most should shampoo about once a week on average. Avoid going longer than 10 days, especially if you use a lot of styling products.
